Betsy Tinney has played electric cello with Gaia Consort since the band's first CD, Gaia Circles, was recorded in 1998. In addition, Betsy plays classical cello with Eastside Symphony Orchestra and coaches begiining cello students in the Redmond Public Schools. She holds a degree in music from Wellesley College, and has played with many amateur and community orchestras, often as principal cellist. Betsy is an active member of the New Directions Cello Association and currently studies both classical and alternative cello with Rich Eckert. (Seattle Symphony / Seattle Opera / Pacific Northwest Ballet) Betsy plays a five string, free standing electric cello, custom made for her Jensen Musical Instruments. When not making music, Betsy breeds and shows award winning Maine Coon Cats, paints, makes jewelry, works part time as web designer and webmaster and occasionally sleeps.
